Why Use a Travel Agent?

Travel Agent

With so many options to book your all inclusive vacation (or any vacation for that matter) why use a travel agent?

Contrary to popular belief, you will save money by using a travel agent, not to mention your precious time.  Many believe the urban myth that exisits out there that if you purchase your vacation package online you are cutting out the "middle man" (travel agent) and saving money because there is no fee or commission involved.  Guess what?  When you book yourself online you are paying a commission and a booking fee (something a travel agent does not charge).  Most online booking systems will charge you $20 or more per person for a "booking fee."  You find this out at the very end when you are ready to enter your credit card.  Now for the commission part - the commission is figured into the price from the travel supplier upfront, and even if you book direct with the travel supplier you will be paying that commission.

A travel agent also has unpublished and discounted prices at their fingertips to save you money.  By working with many suppliers, a good travel agent will research your vacation to find you the very best price.

A travel agent is also very  knowledgeable about what they sell.  This takes the "guess work" out of the equation for you.  How many times have you tried to research resorts only to find that each resort  website makes them look like they are 5 star and claim to satisfy your every vacation desire?  A travel agent knows that there is no "one size fits all" resort.  Each resort caters to a different clientele.  Knowing this, a travel agent will ask you questions about your travel needs and desires and suggest resorts that fit your needs and desires.  Then the travel agent will research their suppliers (which package  your vacation together - air, transfers, taxes, tips, resort, activities) and find the very best price for you!

You will also receive customer service by booking with a travel agent.  Have a question, pick up the phone and speak to the same person who booked your vacation.  Want suggestions about what to do at your destination, ask your travel agent.  Have a problem with the airline or resort - your travel agent will handle this for you and get results quickly.

Customers service, knowledge and great pricing are the reasons you should use a travel agent for your next vacation.

Personalized service seems to be an important factor in the planning of many trips, since, despite the fact that travelers are able to book trips online, travel agent usage is on the rise. Research shows that many consumers use the Internet to conduct travel-related research but turn to agents to book their travel. "Over and over again, we find consumers reaching out to travel agents for personalized service and for the knowledge and resources they offer as experts," said Cheryl Hudak, CTC, president and CEO of the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA). There are many reasons to use a travel agent: • Agents can find you the best value and offer convenient one-stop shopping. By maximizing their supplier contacts, they can save you money and time. • If you have a problem with a particular part of your travel experience, the agent is there to act on your behalf. ASTA, for example, is the only travel association aggressively fighting to improve the travel experience and air transportation, in particular. • Travel agents are experts in deciphering myriad travel information and codes. • Instead of an impersonal voice thousands of miles away, a familiar travel agent knows what you want and what you value in your travel experience. • Travel agents offer professional advice to get you where you want to go when you want to go. • Instead of checking a long list of travel Web pages, which only provide rates and fares for the companies that have contracted with them, why not go straight to the source? Travel agents have all the information at their fingertips, saving you hours in front of a computer. •Agents work for their clients, not a travel supplier. A happy customer will be a repeat customer. When choosing a travel agent, ask if the agent is a member of a professional organization such as ASTA. Select a travel agent as you would any other professional consultant--ask for references, get advice from family and friends and, if you are able, stop by the agency to get a feel for its office and the agent's willingness to work with you. A travel agent has the tools to get travelers where they want to go--in less time and often for less money.
